At the End of the Day - Olmstead Point, Yosemite by Mashuto At the End of the Day - Olmstead Point, Yosemite by Mashuto
EOS 60D | EF-S 15-85 @53 | 1.6s, 0.5s, 1/8s | f/11 | ISO 100

This shot is a sort of like a bittersweet goodbye for me. It was the end of the day (obviously) and was the last evening of my trip out to Yosemite, although I had another morning there, it was back to town after this shot then back home to MD. This shot was taken from Olmstead Point, which was as far as we made it up towards Tioga Pass before the sun started setting. So we settled in and got shooting until the sun set. Managed to capture some great colors of the setting sun on the sides of the mountains. Half Dome is the mountain seen in the distance on the right hand side.

HDR created from 3 images in Oloneo PhotoEngine. I tried to keep the processing as natural as possible and not overdo the "HDR look", hope I succeeded.

great tones and exposures, but the blending (i.e. banding) along the mid-foreground granite is quite badly burnt!

Thanks, I had noticed it, but I wasnt sure how apparent it was going to be. That was just a side effect of the HDR conversion. I guess I could go back and darken the area a bit manually to bring it in line with the mountains behind.

The HDR is perfect. The tones are there without being over the top.

I've experienced this alpine light up in the Sierras and had those feelings
of awe and also sadness of the end of the day. Great capture, thanks for sharing.

This is one of the most beautiful images of mountains I've seen recently. Not being a photographer myself, I wondered why mountains are so hard to photograph - so I looked it up to find, sure enough, they are one of the most difficult subjects to shoot well. Outstanding work, and the HDR is perfect

Yea, its tough because usually you have a large range of brightnesses that camera sensors cant always capture in one image.

Thanks!
