So I know I have already done two edits of this shot, but I was getting photos ready to enter in a competition and I wanted to submit this shot. When I went back, I realized that I really was not happy with either version I had done. The original lacked the pop and wow factor that I remember the scene having in real life and the updated HDR version was just too overdone for my liking. As I have gained considerable knowledge this year not just in taking photos, but also editing them, I decided to give this one another go and see if I could bring this image to where I felt it should have been from the beginning.

About 3 hours later, after a lot of small tweaking, I think I finally got this image to where it deserves to be. More pop and oomph than the original and not super overcooked like the HDR revision.

I hope you will agree with me, but I think this image is finally the way it should have been from the start.

I studied all three photos and yes, this new one is the best. You're right it captures the scene the best, I think. And personally, I don't like photos with borders which the other two photos had. Good luck on the contest! Great shot made even better!

Thanks so much. Im glad you agree that this is the best version.

When I originally processed this image 5 years ago my post processing skills were not nearly as advanced as they are today. As such I dont think I was able to do nearly as much with the photo, and in fact originally had to add colors back in. With this version, I did not add, only brought out what was already there. The HDR version... well, not sure what I thought when I processed that one nearly a year ago, but I look at it now, and it is way way way overdone.

The borders... well, that is something I used to do a while back as I felt it enhanced the images. But now, I would rather my image stand by itself. Whenever they are framed, well I can do matting then, but in the meantime I would rather my photos stand by themselves without the added need for borders. If you actually look through my gallery, I stopped using them about midway through the year and havent gone back.

You have a very impressive gallery -- with or without borders -- I agree with you -- I like adding matting to enhance the photo when it's framed. And I am a purist, I guess, I prefer enhancing colors in photos that are originally there. Thanks! Marilyn

Thanks so much!

I have yet to do any printing or framing (soon I hope) so its a matter of time before I play with that, but for the web, I'm done with borders.

I agree with you, although I dont mind going so far as to adding photo filters or photo filter like effects in post processing. I did a photo filter like effect on the original, but it was fairly strong. And while I did use a photo filter in post on this image, it was very light and only to add a small amount of warmth. Im actually surprised how much more I was able to get out of this than I was in the past.
