A shot from my outing to Great Falls, VA back in October. I usually refrain from posting shots from this angle because this is from the overlook, oh which a ton of people visit. As such, I find it somewhat ordinary, well, more ordinary than some of the other angles I have been able to find. Scrambling down to the rivers edge is always more of a challenge, however, you miss out on the great wide view of the whole gorge.
I chose portrait orientation for this shot because I think it much better captures the scale and depth of the river as it flows through the gorge.

I like the portrait orientation here. I think it works well with that curve in the river. That was my favorite part of Great Falls when I visited several years ago. There was a neat swirl on the inside of that bend, but I couldn't make it look right in any of my shots. I was also just beginning, and ended up shooting it at a terrible aperture for landscape photography! lol I also never got down from the overlook. We'll have to go out there sometime and fix that.
